I don’t need suggestions from the solo mining section here.
I’m on the hunt for cost-effective ways to kick off solo Bitcoin mining with a hashrate of 5 TH or more. I can handle around 500 watts of continuous power for this.
I’m thinking about upgrading some old ASICs, like the S9 or newer. The problem with the older models is that I can only use one motherboard with chips out of three.
I really don’t want to spend 500 bucks on the Canaan Avalon Nano 3S. Instead, I’m looking for an outdated ASIC that’s not making money in the range of 20-200 bucks that I can tweak a bit to start solo mining. Any thoughts?

$500 for a Canaan Avalon Nano 3s? Are you sure ? Because LuckyMiner with 4.5TH cost $203 presently and it consumes 120W only.
The full name is Lucky miner LV08, you can buy more than one to fill that 500watt power you got available.
As for the Canaan Avalon, I think it is somehow overpriced in your location, I helped someone to order for Avalon 3 not the S version on Aliexpress, got it delivered to me in my country a wekk later for just $210 and this Avalon 3 comes with 4TH too, the power consumption is same with the Lucky miner @140watt.
Find a different store, it is not $500 it should be between $330 - $370 Max (I mean the Nano 3s).
we sell Antminer S9 14.5 T @ USD . 150 + shipping cost
we start miners and send you video to check before shipping
if interested DM .

Your location makes it hard. But my partner built a great case for a single s19 or s21 board.
I am running one with a single s19xp board in it.
If you crank the fan a bit and keep it in a cool room it uses 22watts a th.
I will put a photo of the gui in a minute.
I have been telling him the case work is very good and there is a market for an empty case.
here it is on a low setting
I heard that the 21 series will not work with 1 board. Is this not true?
Tell me more about what you did? Are you using ASIC s19xp with one board without firmware and other upgrades?
Thank you, in Russia this old junk costs from 30 dollars per ASIC

I grabbed a lot of epic controllers
They are very versatile
I even modded a t21 with 2 boards uses any 19 series psu.
When I get home I will show a 2 board t21 with a heavy under clock

got busy but here are two boards clocked very low.
I would love to send this to you but shipping is likely next to impossible for me to do.
maybe you can order an epic controller from altairtech. along with the power bars for an s21
and grab any s19 psu in Russia
build one yourself
it would likely work well for years as you never push it hard.
What is nice if mining picks up you can crank to about 2000 or 2200 watts and get around 110th
you can even disable 1 more board if mining sucks and do 500 watts and about 20th
so 20 to 110th at 500 to 2200 watts range with efficiency as good at 18 or 19 watts th and maybe as bad as 25 watts a th set super low
Do I understand correctly that it is impossible to do this on a standard ASIC controller from the S19 series. Do I need a special ePIC controller?

epic is the most versatile one to use.
a lot of features on the fly fan changes
you can manually do
as low as 50mhz to 550 mhz
volts from 11.9 to 15
fan 20% to 100%
I used brains mara epic vnsh and bitmain
I push epic as it has no fees for development.
it works with all s19 and all s21 and t19 and t21
good github support.
braiins is okay
vnsh is okay.
epic bypasses psu id.
so a bitmain apw121215a to apw121215f
works on any s19 or s21
in general i usually say get that controller.
find a two board s19 on the cheap slap that controller in it put a space for the missing hashboard and play around with settings.
I know that Vnish has special firmware for ASICs. I didn't know that they sell controllers.

Have you considered an Antminer L3+ instead? (for mining Litecoin and Dogecoin with merged mining), they're cheaper, consume much less than Bitcoin ones, and two of these generate more than an S9.
Why мine Litecoin Solo?
Do you want to get a $500 reward?
If you mine Bitcoin solo, you can earn at least several hundred thousand dollars. The chance of this happening is very, very small, but what miner does not hope for luck.
