Hey folks,
Got a strange one for you: during the Q3 2025 earnings call, the CoinBase CEO actually read out all the bets related to the call that were available on Polymarket right at the very end (source).
He also shared about it on his X: link.
People are cracking jokes about the losses and those who managed to profit from it, considering they had insider knowledge.
What’s your take on this?

Honestly it felt less like some 4D insider heist and more like Brian discovering Polymarket five minutes before the call and deciding to do a dad joke in front of a live audience.
These "mention markets" are structurally dumb the moment the person being bet on is aware of them. If the outcome is literally "will Brian say the magic words," then Brian is the oracle and the attacker at the same time. Of course he can flip them all to YES with one breath.
The only part that would bother me is if anyone inside Coinbase actually had positions on those markets. Then you've crossed from goofy word salad into "CEO toggles a small gambling market for his friends." Coinbase claims employees are barred from prediction markets and the volumes were tiny anyway, so this one is probably just a cheap PR stunt plus a free lesson: bet on fundamentals, not on whether a billionaire will say "Web3" on command.
One could have been the source of that big insider from those bets?
He has to put some bigger structure for the policies that no employee should be allowed in getting involved with prediction markets and as well as listings.
Because they would do that on their own advantage and no one will ever know if they would do that. Anyway, they're free to put punishment on who's got caught with that.
