Imagine checking your email at 6:55 am and finding out that your job is gone at a company you’ve probably poured your heart into. That’s the reality for 700 employees at Coinbase.
So, I woke up to this news today, and even though it’s not brand new, I think it’s worth discussing. Bryan Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, has decided to cut about 14% of the workforce, citing a shift towards artificial intelligence as the reason behind this reduction.
It’s no secret that AI is becoming a big deal in various industries, and it feels like humans are slowly being pushed out. Coinbase’s move is just one indication that we might see even more layoffs in the future, especially since Armstrong mentioned that “AI is rapidly reshaping how work is done across the tech industry.”
Just curious, with AI taking over so much, do you think there’ll still be a place for human workers, or should we all start scouting for new opportunities?
Similar topic is already existing since 3 days ago on the service discussion board.
Coinbase reduces work force by ~14%
Although, I do not think that it should belong to service discussion board because we are not discussing about Coinbase products and services, but we are discussing about about Coinbase workers. It supposed to belong economic board just like this thread.
The topic also have an active thread on this forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5582208.0
Take it all we leave it this is the new era we are in right now everyone should not be too comfortable with their job, maybe employment contracts might protects you a little but then again every company is going for what will save them more cost even if it takes them to fire some lf their workers and render them jobless, it's all about accepting innovation.
it first appeared in Bitcoin Discussions iirc but the moderators moved it there.
I am not sure where it belongs but as I wrote in the other thread, it's 4th round of layoffs since 2022 so not even that worthy of a thread
Point to note is that, not all human are getting replaced with AI but those that their services may not b needed any more, because AI at whatever Level still depends on human interference to function well, so if AI replaces humans this are the unskilled and improving section of staff's, not technical staff's will v affected by this, we need to always make clarity of that fact, I also saw a thread about this discussion earlier so you should lock this thread and let the discussion continue there.
That is literally a sad and wrong thing that companies have started to fire staff/employees for the integration of new technology and AI systems into the company, for the replacement of human work. That is so wrong, a technology which is designed by humans will disturb many things in the future for humans themselves. So, that is why I think that AI technology should be restricted to a specific domain so that humans can control it, or the need for humans in workplaces at that time should also be possible.
I was seeing such kind of news on social media that some countries are considering signing such a law that companies can not replace human jobs with AI integration in the company ecosystem to keep the job opportunities healthy. And I think this news was from China. It really feels good to read that such a kind of action is being taken for the betterment of the future.
You can see this source here... Chinese court rules firms cant lay off workers on AI grounds
It's something to be sad about because this is putting a lot of people out of jobs and considering that there's a rise in price of things so being without a job can cause depression and lead to another issues of stealing or even suicide when they can't provide for their families.
Since Charles-Tim has provided a link so we can talk there as I'd lock this thread now.
