I'm still setting up my mining "farm" and have been getting a ton of help from a friend who's an electrician. He suggested I should look into the power factor and consider getting some power factor correction capacitors. I started digging into this, but are these things actually helpful for ASIC miners?
A bit of background on my setup: it's in an old industrial shop from the 80s with loads of 8' T8 lights, a couple of ancient heat pumps, you know, the typical stuff from back then. We're even using the heat from the miners to warm up the shop. Last week, it was super cold, around 2F outside, and the shop was a cozy 62F inside.
Do ASIC miners need power factor correction?

These days virtually all miner PSU's have active PFC and will not need external caps to keep the utility company happy.
Now if you are running a lot of motors or very old switchmode power supplies that do not have active PFC then you may need to look at that. As for the big florescent lights -- maybe, though I'd think that if PFC was needed for them it would have been done when the place was built.
