Hey everyone I'm planning to grab a Bitcoin nerdminer 550kh/s to start mining. Honestly, I'm pretty lost on how to kick things off. I've got some cash to put into these machines, but I could really use a simple, straightforward guide. Break it down for me like I’m a kid, please.

Read this before buying the bitcoin nerd miner and decide that, will it be good or bad for you-  -NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners And you should move this topic to the Mining board I think this topic suit more on that board not in Beginners & Help.

The Nerdminer is an absolute waste of your money. At best it is a toy. As a CPU miner (with an incredibly slow CPU to make things even worse) its speed is so low that most pools will not accept it. Even the BitAxe miners (which are ASIC-based) are a better choice. Assuming you find a pool to use it with yes, there is a statistical chance of you finding a block with it but that chance is infinitesimally tiny - as in at best 1 in several million lifetimes...

Only the mentally ill mine with nerd miners. Use a bitaxe. Well you may not be mentally ill you may just be ignorant.

I think the Nerdminer is a great place to start (I think you're off by an order of magnitude on that expected hashrate though). The more people understanding Bitcoin mining, the better. Don't just buy it, plug it in and forget about it though -- that would be a waste. Dig in, learn how Bitcoin mining works. It will help you make informed decisions as you fall into this wild rabbit hole of ensuring freedom money. And yeah, check out the Bitaxe too
