Hey folks,
Been running a Bitaxe setup for a bit, and with all the network difficulty and BTC price changes this year, I've been pondering the reasons behind solo mining.
We all get it: the chances of hitting a block with just a few terahashes are pretty much next to nothing. Still, I keep seeing more people jump into solo pools or snagging up those smaller ASIC miners.
From my perspective, as someone with a background in electromechanical systems, I don’t see this as a fast track to riches, more like buying a lottery ticket that also helps keep the network decentralized. Plus, messing around with the hardware is just a blast. Lately, I’ve been tweaking the cooling on my unit to see how much I can boost the efficiency without frying the chip.
I’m really interested to hear from other small-scale solo miners:
Are you still running your small rigs non-stop even with the rising difficulty?
Do you consider the electricity costs as just a fun expense, or are you genuinely chasing that rare block?
For me, I believe the knowledge gained from running my own node and miner is way more valuable than the few sats I could earn in a regular pool.
Looking forward to your thoughts!
Is solo mining with a Bitaxe still a good idea in 2026? My thoughts

Does the story of the gold and the shovels sound familiar?
I see where you're coming from! But if Bitcoin is a digital ocean, Im not just selling buckets to catch the tide.
Id rather be the lighthouse builder. The Bitaxe isnt just a tool to extract value; its a beacon that keeps the network decentralized and secure. While others wait for the rain, we are busy building the irrigation system for the future of finance.

Pls move to Bitcoin mining section.
Just know that there are solo miners since 2023 that hasn't solved a single block, this is the truth about solo mining, I suggest you sit down and try to understand what you are about to do.
Solo mining equals gambling, you can keep mining for many years to come and you won't solve a single block, you can also mine for few months and hit a block, it's a probability.
You are to use money that you won't mind losing to buy an BitAxe, in short, zero your mind once you purchase it, admit that the money is lost because it's probably lost forever.

For me, having Bitaxe is a good place to start if you're new to mining; at least it can help you learn how it works.
If you are looking for profit, then no, it's not worth it unless you're lucky, but the difficulty is increasing, making hitting a block more difficult.
If your purpose is for learning and fun, then it's worth it.
Agree on that ; maybe this is a luck 101 % than it is an investement ; not like the monero XMR minnng with CPU befoe COVID 19 .......... Any ways it s like win the LOTO but the conclusion is that you can yes you can
That ' s Philosophy i mean YES YOU CAN but don't place too luch hope on the subject .
.1 BUY BITAX
.2 SET IT UP TO RUN AT 900 MH with you BTC ADDY ...
.3 Clean it from Sometimes .
.4 This only an educative topic .... i mean it the sky does not rain gold or silver always .... BUT IT CAN DO IT ONCE
I've given you a lot of shit and you probably will be banned pretty soon because you never figured out nobody wants to read your AI garbage, but I was just thinking, what if this guy actually mines a solo block, wouldn't I feel stupid.
I figured you'd appreciate this, its more speaking your language, take time to truly understand what it is saying:
Well at least you managed to set up the miner, or so you appear to claim.
Maybe i will also play LOTO sometimes

You already saw the light and have a better understanding of solo mining and have even gone as far as running and managing your own node. Seeing others do same despite the difficulty you are facing now, is an encouragement to keep pushing ahead and make your systems more efficient, without minding the cost because the reward will obviously be greater than the initial capital spent.
I think solo mining is a great option for anyone with the knowledge, whereas for others, it is just one of the ways to earn and be wealthy with crypto currency investment.
Appreciate the words, Alphakilo. you are right head regarding the light once you realize that running a node is about sovereignty rather than just profit, the math changes. Most people are obsessed with the daily cents, but they miss the point of being your own bank.
Im currently tweaking my setup to see how far I can push the efficiency without burning out the chips. Its a steep learning curve, but honestly, the hands-on knowledge gained from solo mining is the best investment I've made in this space so far. No pool fee can buy that kind of insight.

Everyone calling this a lottery ticket needs to stop. A bitaxe is basically just a tiny space heater. Its true value is forcing u to learn the stratum protocol.
Getting a local node synced up and pulling block templates is pure cypherpunk homelab stuff. The hardware is cool for tweaking thermals. U will literally never hit a block and thats fine. Just treat the power bill as a fee for a networking class. Expecting yield from this is brain damage.
That s fair ; good luck anyways it may happen

I run a node and a single Bitaxe. My setup is my small contribution to decentralizing and strengthening the Bitcoin network. The lottery ticket is just a side bonus.

i think small scale solo mining os mostly a hobby at this point, financially it is unlikely to pay off but the educational value and understanding of the network is worth it
Good luck .... that s fair ... one day all will be millionaires
Educational side is the realistic goal .... but luck can smile
