Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right spot, but I’m hoping someone can help me out... I’ve got this wallet that holds some bitcoin my brother mined back in March and June of 2009. At the time, they were pretty much worthless, so when he switched laptops, he just left it all behind... Now I’ve stumbled upon it and tried to access it using version 0.95. Here’s the deal: it looks like none of the mining transactions are showing up in the blockchain. When I first open the wallet (before the blockchain updates), it indicates that I have X bitcoin and shows the mining transactions. Just to clarify, it hasn’t made any transfers yet. I’m including one of these mining transactions here, hoping you guys might have some ideas on how to recover these funds. Thanks a lot! gettransaction "ef4fbf9cbca98540ea043c1a12b906af176b2d8a50f4dddfa10632e94a1bb748" { "amount" : 50.00000000, "confirmations" : 437, "generated" : true, "blockhash" : "000000009df7cae8906f25033e7cd53fdb4fe04b338a94dfef8e6eda18649cc2", "blockindex" : 0, "blocktime" : 1243187650, "txid" : "ef4fbf9cbca98540ea043c1a12b906af176b2d8a50f4dddfa10632e94a1bb748", "walletconflicts" : [ ], "time" : 1243187650, "timereceived" : 1243187650, "details" : [ { "account" : "", "address" : "12bp69KNGPv3o5R8q1wbZBqAxtrv3GFS5P", "category" : "generate", "amount" : 50.00000000 } ], "hex" : "01000000010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000fffff fff0c02b229010a062f503253482fffffffff0100f2052a0100000023210353534d9d8cdd7255dc 4eeac1a2e68004c75520917b775b0655f15cf073703be8ac00000000" }

You either need the wallet backup file or the private key. If the file is encrypted, you need the password to decrypt it. If you do not have any of this than the bitcoin address, you can not be able to have access to the coins. But if someone is telling you that you can have access to and tell you to buy an encryptd wallet file, it is a scam.

I understand what you are passing through but since the wallet is not yours and the laptop has been changed, it will be a difficult task for you to achieve, because you don't have the private keys to his wallet, neither do you have the wallet back up file making recovering the wallet impossible. You should ask your brother about his private keys because I believe he knows better than you do, or is he not aware that you want to access his wallet.

Does not look legit. Can't find the TX or the HEX anywhere on my explorer. I'm on mobile & remote into my home network so I might be missing something so don't take it as 100% fact until someone else checks. -Dave

The transaction in question doesn't exist in the blockchain at all and that means that there is nothing to be recovered. Chances are you have a fake wallet file.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0013.mediawiki BIP-13 was created in 2011. However, your transaction contains "/P2SH/" inside the coinbase. https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0034.mediawiki BIP-34 was created in 2012. But your transaction states "7464" as a block height, inside your coinbase transaction. Why you are hiding your address? You already posted hex data of your transaction, so that anyone knows, that your public key is 027715db6e817d88968aaaba2c8bf17357fc013d9d0cfd17e2dc58d10ba8f4fd54 It doesn't exist on Bitcoin. And those coins are definitely not from 2009, but at least from 2012, if not later.

The post is completely wrong, or the values are purposely wrong. The timestamp 1233713540 leads us to block 2933: https://mempool.space/block/00000000d6f0d7cee72dd0f0eb7de68e7daf9e00b09b0fc5ed3d07abeba185a1 But, the 3210 confirmations can't be true because that's only 3210 blocks back, which by my estimations, must be around August - September of this year (2024). The public key and the tx id can't be found, which means they are purposely wrong.

Sorry, my mistake...I copied a test I did.... I corrected the post with the correct transaction data but I also put it below.. if you want more please ask.. I have everything, private key and wallet is not encrypted... but they seem to be gone It was of little use to crypt the wallet in 2009, bitcoins were worthless and my brother understood less than nothing about these things... he read, installed and let mine a couple of months then closed and changed pc. gettransaction "ef4fbf9cbca98540ea043c1a12b906af176b2d8a50f4dddfa10632e94a1bb748" { "amount" : 50.00000000, "confirmations" : 437, "generated" : true, "blockhash" : "000000009df7cae8906f25033e7cd53fdb4fe04b338a94dfef8e6eda18649cc2", "blockindex" : 0, "blocktime" : 1243187650, "txid" : "ef4fbf9cbca98540ea043c1a12b906af176b2d8a50f4dddfa10632e94a1bb748", "walletconflicts" : [ ], "time" : 1243187650, "timereceived" : 1243187650, "details" : [ { "account" : "", "address" : "12bp69KNGPv3o5R8q1wbZBqAxtrv3GFS5P", "category" : "generate", "amount" : 50.00000000 } ], "hex" : "01000000010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000fffff fff0c02b229010a062f503253482fffffffff0100f2052a0100000023210353534d9d8cdd7255dc 4eeac1a2e68004c75520917b775b0655f15cf073703be8ac00000000" } I also attach 2 pictures https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eZnSGOTjxlOm468SYtPEvSunn_W7P_Id&usp=drive_copy https://drive.google.com/file/d/13Kj_GQMzq04tIqdbTisTMPPVeP6Rt50g/view?usp=drive_link

12bp69KNGPv3o5R8q1wbZBqAxtrv3GFS5P -> this address is empty and never used in the past. The confirmations are still wrong. Everything is wrong. Nobody is going to click on the google drive links, for privacy reasons. Sorry, but you look like you troll.

I will not click any link, for security reasons. So you claim that you have the private key, but the wallet is empty? If so, which is the address that used to have the bitcoins that is now emptied?

let's get this straight, the original blk00000.dat (the one saved on the disk), is 16.8mb and was last modified on July 2, 2009 at 6:06 pm. in this blockchain all mining transitions exist, is when the program updates the blockchain all transitions go to 0/unconfirmed. and anyway yes i have all the private keys. the wallet is what you say it's never been used, if you mean for transfers, definitely never been used, only for mining

Alright, let's see. When you say you have the private keys, what exactly do you have? A wallet.dat file?

There is no reason to see pictures my friend, I am ok with the info you have posted. So, since you have the private keys, have you imported them into Electrum for example? To check if they lead to any UTXO?

Are you absolutely sure that these addresses used to be funded? Share some of the addresses with as.
