Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, it is just a piece of software (an operation system) , on it's own -- it can't mine anything, let alone BTC. So what is the hardware you got? if it is not an ASIC then it won't be able to feasibly mine BTC,  if it is an ASIC then all ASIC miners come equipped with an operating system.

Did you read the sticky thread? In case you miss it, check the quote below from the sticky thread. You can check Mining (Altcoins) maybe someone would able to give you idea how to mine altcoin on ubuntu but not Bitcoin. However, if you wish to mine BTC, then I advise you to read this: First time/Small miner reference for getting started

If you like Linux systems then use Hive OS. You can mine any altcoins or join nicehash service to get rewards in bitcoins or other coins. Hive OS is the best system for mining on Linux where you can start mining in 5-10 minutes. In ubuntu, you will face different difficulties to configure the video card settings. If you don't want to take the easy way, then on ubuntu mining is possible.

NOT to directly mine bitcoin. You can rent it for about 10 or 20 cents a day at nicehash and get paid in bitcoin.  you will likely lose money.  you should post in the alt coin section. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0 you could ask the mods to move it to alt coins.

Ubuntu is Linux, what you need is a Linux OS that is build from scratch as a mining OS, good for GPU and Asic miner owners, and yes the Linux built feel more smoother. I have always use windows mining software for years and I found it difficult to use a Linux OS but when I finally learn about it the experience feels new and smooth. You can use hiveos, minerstat, simple mining and many others, they are based on Linux OS and you can control your Asic miners and connect to the pool through them.
