I got a laptop with an RTX 4090 GPU. How do I get started with mining bitcoin using this card? Also, how long would it take to mine a full bitcoin? I could really use some guidance here since I'm new to this crypto stuff.

You need ASICs to mine a decent fraction of bitcoin. Not just one but multiple running with good ventilation, cooling and power supply. Forget about GPU, those days are long long gone. Rather use that device for playing games. It is better you buy bitcoin directly and hold it to sell at higher prices. Let me take the moment to remind you of the rule that begging in any form is not allowed. If you want advice, then buy bitcoin at the low price once you have a stable income. You will learn eventually. Mining is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Anything that advertises itself in that manner is a scam.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5457533.msg62459153#msg62459153 safar1980 has compiled a list of mining services that pay rewards in BTC. Mining Bitcoin on a video card has not been profitable for a long time, but you can mine other profitable altcoins and receive rewards in Bitcoin or stablecoins. Explore these services and start mining I don't use these services. I go to the mining calculator and mine the most profitable coin https://hashrate.no/gpus/4090 You can then exchange your altcoin for Bitcoin on any crypto exchange. A small warning. Most likely, mining on a laptop will end with your laptop breaking down due to constant overheating, because this equipment is not designed for mining.

Unfortunately you can't mine Bitcoin using a GPU anymore, a RTX 4090 on a laptop is a mobile version and it is let weaker than a discrete GPU, still none can mine Bitcoin today, it is better you invest on an Asic miner. I also won't advise you to use that laptop to mine any cryptocurrency because an RTX 4090 laptop is costly and using it to mine coins will degrade the laptop very fast, even while using discrete graphic cards I still have to reapply thermal paste once in a year, you can do the same with the laptop too but imagine how much energy it takes to separate a laptop apart. You can easily break something if you open the laptop yourself, I advise against this. The hashrate shown on your link is for standard RTX 4090 graphic card not those found in a laptop, this 4090 use more power than the mobile counterpart. A RTX 4090 Mobile use up to 200 watts and a standard RTX 4090 uses 450watts, this shows that their hashing power will never be the same. .. So if anyone is using RTX4090 found in laptops they should expect lower performance compare to a standard RTX 4090 for desktop computers.

Well if you suggest that you wish to run a node with that PC then it would seem more of an enthusiastic act than attempting to mine with a GPU given the current difficulty level of the bitcoin Blockchain. Well as at around 2009 - 2010 when the difficulty was still very low you could manage pull it off but mining with these specs currently would be more a waste of computational power. I think where you are actually getting it wrong is you are trying to compare your GPU capacity with those smaller ASIC mining wares in the market but they are very different. Your GPU is designed to carry out multiple tasks quickly but an ASIC ware on the other hand is designed to carry out a single task (hashing) very fast and efficiently and that's what mining actually needs.

The difference isn't only power usage, but also memory size and frequency according to https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/4606vs4737/GeForce-RTX-4090-vs-GeForce-RTX-4090-Laptop-GPU. NiceHash these days isn't good choice, due to some controversial change such as more strict KYC requirement and stealing taking fee when you're inactive. Meanwhile MinerGate have bad reputation, with usually people report lower income/hashrate (compared when using different mining software), withdraw problem or even scam accusation. ETH switched from PoW to PoS since 2 years ago. Actually it's what almost Bitcoin miner does.

If the laptop version is not added to the calculator, then it proves the pointlessness of mining The laptop owner can use the universal calculator by selecting the profit coins of a regular RTX 4090 graphics card https://hashrate.no/calculator

everyone already said it. But I will give you my real experience mining using laptop the simple answer is NO and never. Here is my story Back then I just like you I want mining everything using my laptop and then I decided to mining dogecoin by renting my graphic card to a site that similar like miningrigrental and then I started mining for 4 days streak and don't turn off my laptop at all and the result is my laptop is broken the display is error and cant even be turned on again. Lucky me I just tell the store that my laptop broken for no reason they believed it and took my laptop for repairing and using laptop guarantee card and its safe. So yeah mining with laptop is same like you hurt your laptop and that is very painful way, because laptop is design for daily use in efficient way not like PC

You hit your head or something? Whoever tells you such fairy tales is a scammer. That investment is going to the scammer's pocket and you should learn to avoid such mistakes. Trading maybe, mining no, unless you own a mining company yourself. The times have changed and ASICs are the device you need to mine if you are looking to even break even.

What 'card'? BTC can only be mined using ASIC-based miners. For over 10 years nothing that is PC-based can be used. ref https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2415854.0 point-3

Mining Bitcoin with an RTX 4090 isn’t practical since ASIC miners dominate Bitcoin mining. GPUs are better for altcoins like Kaspa or Ravencoin, but keep in mind it could take a long time to get your ROI. Also, mining on a laptop can overheat and damage your hardware, so it’s not ideal for long-term mining.

Mining Bitcoin with an RTX 4090 is really not worth it, especially since the power of mobile graphic cards is not that great. But if you really want to do that I think you can still do mining, but you need to know that it is not profitable at all, and it is all a loss in terms of hardware maintenance and electricity costs. Even so, I think it is better for OP to buy ASIC to do mining, and if you really want to focus on Bitcoin mining, then there is nothing wrong with exchanging your laptop for a device that is capable of doing it. I also agree that GPUs are currently better for mining altcoins as stated by @BitSean, and for reference you can try to see the following : Whattomine- Gpus

That's a higher end laptop, I am sure it cost you a lot to buy this laptop, how long are you willing to use this laptop? I asked because mining on this laptop can degrade your laptop, maybe even died when using the laptop. Also you can't use this laptop to mine Bitcoin, LTC and BCH, because they are using sha256 algo, they don't support GPU mining, but you can use this laptop to mine Ethereum Classic, I just can't gurantee the profit if it will be good enough. The only coins that are profitable to mine now are mostly sha256, Aleo and Doge coin.

Please double-check what you write. 1. LTC actually use scrypt rather than SHA-256. 2. These days, ASIC for Ethereum Classic (along with other coin that use Ethash) is exist. You can visit https://www.asicminervalue.com/ and click ETC to verify my statement. Related thread, oneminers dot com is a probable scam mining company.

While everyone knows that solo mining Bitcoin isn't possible with the amount of difficulty we have to mine the Bitcoin block, but one news story got my attention recently where a solo miner mined a Bitcoin block and he was rewarded a handsome amount. He wasn't a part of any mining pool and he was using BitAXE miner at his home. Solo Bitcoin Miner Has Mined An Entire Bitcoin Block Worth $300K
