So my s9 has been mining for the past three years but it's getting retired in a month. The place where I was mining for free power is changing owners, so I gotta take my s9 out of there. Please, mourn with me. Big thanks to this community for helping me get that old machine running smoothly three years ago. Got any suggestions on what I can do with this heavy paperweight?

Retiring in 2024 is still an outstanding achievement for a S9, I mean with the crazy last years BTC's difficulty and the low efficiency of the said S9, this was nice for you to be able to still get free sats until now! (or did you do lottery mining in solo? I would have if I had only 1 S9 with free electricty tbh) You can sell it for some dollars, the same for the PSU if it is still ok... A s9 is not rare enough to be gift to a mining museum. Where are you located?

Sell it on ebay I guess? Someone who has access to "free" electricity might buy it from you. Since they don't care about efficiency, they will buy every cheap miner out there. Other than that it is completely useless now probably. https://www.ebay.com/p/12031073066 This s9 is going for $69.99. You are lucky if you can get $100 for that and I don't know if you care enough o get that $100. Just throw it away.

it is just the s9 without the psu. and it costs 70 + 20 to ship = 90 What you do not understand is people have free power at 120 volts. Which means 13th = 13 x .12 = $1.56 per day

Moncton Canada.  And I would like to point out that I purchased it for $65 off of eBay. My approximate guess for the amount of money that it has earned is.... 49x 65...... So the obsolete s9 made approximately $3,000..   😁👍 So I'd say it had a good run.  And my intent is to put it back on eBay for about what I paid for it.

It's a bit light for an anchor and you need to hammer it really good before so  - sell it, just put the price 1$ lower than the cheapest and it will be gone in a few days - heater, that is if your electricity is not far more expensive than gas - turn it into some brutalism style décor - emergency dog/cat silencer when you run out of flower pots

Doorstopper would fit better, they can do exactly that, I have used them for such purpose when i had nobody to hold the door while i carry stuff inside/,outside. I think the scrap value for S9 was 10-15% in China 2-3 years ago, now with all metals increasing cost, it should be 20$ or so,  so ya, worst case.

I vote for the space heater option if it works for you. Done a few of those over the years. I am setting up a couple of L3++ for next winter here in the condo. It depends on how you look at it. If I wanted to heat the entire place with electric it's going to be WAY more expensive then the central gas heat. BUT, just to keep the back room warmer when I am working in it on colder days in the winter when there is no point to heating the rest of the place then it's a win. -Dave

Too bad about the free power loss.  Free satoshis are free satoshis! Maybe you can tap the power, and hide the S9 somewhere?  I've seen the kits to put a larger much quieter fan on ASICs.  Small high speed fans are way too noisy.

OP, tell me that you have been holding your Bitcoin all this while since the last 3 years? If yes then it should be worth a lot, maybe by 2025 when BTC reach a new all time high? I believe that 100k and up is possible, since you are running a single S9 and you have made some profit I suggest you should be few solar panels and LifeP04 battery to get that thing running. I can't say you should change the location because its just one Asic miner, you should Starr thinking about paying the bills of your Grid power is very stable, its time to take responsibility, 3 years free mining is a lot already.

After the halving, many older models will become ineffective, and here they used a very old S9 ASIC. In my country, these ASICs sell for 10-20 dollars, so you can still get some money by selling the equipment. Many people buy this equipment for collection, so you have the opportunity to sell the old ASIC.
