I’m pretty clueless about mining stuff. I’ve got some solar panels and thought it’d be cool to create some extra heat in winter while also helping the network with a couple of miners. So, I picked up a used s9j from newegg... straight from China... but it’s not working at all. I really don’t even know where to kick things off, and that’s why I’m here hoping to tap into the smarts of all you generous folks. When I power the miner on, I see a small red light on hashing boards 1 and 2. But board 3 is dark. After about a minute, the 'fault' light blinks once for a split second, the fans chill out, and then the little red lights on boards 1 and 2 turn off while board 3 lights up and stays on. Is there something obvious that I could be missing? Anything specific I should check in the kernel log? My total guess is that board 3 is toast or having issues, but I'm way out of my element here. UPDATE Here’s the kernel log, but honestly, I’m not sure what I’m even looking at.

Hi! Did you run through their FAQ? Take a look at these: https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018826774-What-do-miner-s-signal-lights-mean- https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019493654-S9-series-S9-S9i-S9j-S9-Hydro-Control-Board-Program-Recovery

A simple test is CAREFULLY pull the cable from the controller that goes to board 3. What does the GUI say? It should mine even with 1 bad board just show a bunch of  xxxxx for the chips. If you post the log there might be something that people here can see. USE the code tags (# above) when posting so it's easy to see and scroll, just don't copy past it in the post. Also move this post to the hardware section. Will get more eyes on it there. -Dave

Possibly the 3rd board is faulty or overheating. Better check the dashboard of this miner under the miner's status to see which one isn't working. And read the kernel logs for possible errors you should see why it's not working. Like the above  said post the kernel logs here so that we can see the cause of why it isn't working. You can also try to test all hash boards one by one to find the culprit you can follow the guide below. - https://www.zeusbtc.com/articles/asic-miner-troubleshooting/1050-how-to-test-antminer-hash-board-one-by-one

Well, the flashing "fault" indicator indicates that the miner has detected an error or malfunction in the board # 3 or in the power supply, which leads to a slowdown in the rotation of the fans and disconnection of the miner. Also check the data cables connected to the boards. Try to connect another power supply, if the error persists, then run and test the miner with one board connected, for example, start with #1 and #2 and #3 disconnect.
