12 TH/s is now negligible given the overall hashrate of 1,000,000,000 terahashes. And what's more, 24 TH/s with 400 watts of power consumption is already too much for a home device, and the chances are still minimal.
I don't understand why sellers are asking $500-600.
A huge advantage is the noise.
The home miners are very quiet and you can operate them comfortably in living rooms.
Real ASICs are incredibly loud to operate near people and their homes.
The loud noise can really make you sick if you hear it in the background ( e.g. garage, basement, etc.).
For this reason, the home miners are a nice option to join the BTC network. One is willing to pay a bit more for fun and hobby.
