Restoring wallets from pre-fork days

Hey everyone, remember the good old days before all the BTC/BSV/BCH forks? I’ve got an ancient wallet.dat from the classic bitcoincore that’s still working with the latest bitcoin core. Since it’s pretty old, I never set up any recovery passwords. So, to access my post-fork BSV/BCH wallets, what are some compatible wallets people are using these days?

I would export the private keys, send some Fork dust to the addresses to force replay protection, and use a light wallet whenever possible for offline signing. Don't trust Fork wallets, and make sure you move your Bitcoins before doing anything else. It is also possible to use the full chain wallets for Forkcoins, but it's usually not necessary. You may want to read my Bitcoin Fork claiming guide (and service). Note that price information in that topic is outdated, and most Forks are worthless by now.

I would do it differently. But that's just me. 1) Send some real BTC to that address and then move all the real BTC with the dust off to a new address. The forks should not follow since that transaction would not be valid on their chains. 2) Now you can add shitcoin fork dust to the original address and move those forks. This way if something goes wrong, you don't have to worry about loosing your BTC since it's already elsewhere. -Dave

There's no need to send Bitcoin to the old address. Bitcoin can be moved without any of the Forks replaying the transaction.

I made this guide long ago, to claim most of the forks in the same wallet (coinomi) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3064698.0 Coinomi is not safe to use anymore, but it is still working and you can claim your forked coins there. Just move your real btc first before attempting to recover forked coins

Are you sure? I was under the impression that even now 6 years later that TXs involving only pre-forked coins can still move the coins on the other chains. Didn't pay that much attention then and still don't but I thought the forks did not implement replay protection which was causing issues. -Dave

I'm sure. The only Forks I've ever seen that lack replay protection are BCH <> BSV <> eCash, but ever against BTC. And some of them may have upgraded their protocol since then (but I didn't follow it anymore so better safe than sorry).
