There's a fresh on-chain donation platform that lets U.S. politicians take crypto donations using the Base network. Fans of various candidates can pick from more than 240 cryptocurrencies to contribute through this platform. Support your choice of candidates with crypto.

From the article and the donation website it is not really clear what the Base network has to do with any of it besides being one of the options for payment. They also say that users can choose from over 240 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, and also they can pay with a credit card. Politicians accepting crypto isn’t so new and groundbreaking anymore, but it has started to become a trend in this election cycle. We have come to a point where crypto holders are a big enough constituency where many politicians are trying to attract their votes and donations.

According to the Base network's lead, there's an auto-conversion process in the mix, so they'll actually receive USD instead of cryptocurrencies [source]. - BTW, the platform in question mentioned "collecting the minimum necessary information" from crypto donors, but from what I'm seeing at the moment, it's way more than what I'd classify as the minimum! For some reason, the "candidates" page isn't working on my side!

Through this, the actual purpose of a crypto donation isn't fulfilled. It will just make the candidates richer in fiat and nothing else. The actual purpose of crypto donation is to ensure that the presidential candidates get the taste of cryptocurrency. They need to use it in order to know the impact. If they receive the money into their party's back account, nothing makes any difference to them. They won't come to know the impact cryptocurrency is making. All good for politicians, but this network is not focusing on the purpose, honestly! I hope no one donating to the Democrats through crypto anyway!

Well, I know that from our position we would like Bitcoin to be used massively to pay for goods and services, but not being so today, the fact that you can donate with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, although then the automatic conversion is made so that politicians can spend those funds for their campaign, seems to me an advance. In fact, it has had an effect at campaign rallies.

Being sarcastic about people "wasting" their money but this is just another funny way to lose your coins to nothing. However if you look deeply, Trump has received a lot in donations already, which makes you think, what if this was all part of a money laundering system for people moving money? Trump has a lot of power and will gain a lot more if he wins, he has casinos to run that money and keep on increasing it from the bankrolls, and he has criminals at hand to supply the money to him. No wonder such sites are coming up to help "fund" election campaigns.
