I think this documentary aired on the National Geographic Channel back in 2011 or 2012! I remember watching it when Bitcoin was just $12, but honestly, I didn't get it at all and ended up skipping it. Fast forward to 2014 when I stumbled upon it online again. For a while, I seriously thought the filmmakers were the ones behind Bitcoin, like they were Satoshi Nakamoto or something... turns out, I was totally off. By 2017, when Bitcoin started to gain traction globally, I finally grasped that Satoshi Nakamoto probably wouldn't ever reveal their identity. It's crazy how this is such a revolutionary tech!

I checked the video and it was from 13 years ago, so that was still in the early stage. I haven’t watched this one yet, but since you shared it, I think I can give this 4 minute video a try. It feels like watching a piece of history that was actually recorded during that time. Thanks for sharing this.

In the video, they interviewed Bruce Wagner. Who committed fraud back then lol. You can even find discussions about him committing fraud here on the forum

Amazing to see such great throw back, since with that we could see that even before people got reminded or notified by national geographic the existence of Bitcoin. Can't imagine how people feel who saw that video before and they know the current also last $100k all time high for sure many people will have this regrets for not buying especially if they ignore Bitcoin before. Also for finding Satoshi I doubt there's someone could track him. It seems that he made proper planning for his disappearance since until now no one ever point out his real identity.

Satoshi's anonymity proves an explanatory of the Bitcoin properties which gives users Privacies. His disclosure will also impact a lot of the Bitcoin users who want to also keep their facial profiles undisclosed to also follow suit by not letting the public know about the their owned Bitcoins. Some would say they did not steal the Bitcoin and they are not cowards and then get questioning why should they keep hidden of themselves. Such persons actually don't know the value of privacy also enhances security. I also agree with you that it has logically been planned of Satoshi not to reveal himself and whoever being sighted or claiming to be Satoshi should not be trusted.

I was surprised there was a documentary like this back then. And I'm unlucky I was not able to see this back then hahahaha. Documentary like this is really I like, especially since I'm into technology, so if I saw these before, I would really like it and maybe I may be introduced with Bitcoin early.

[Collection Thread] Series and films in which Bitcoin (or Altcoins) appear. This thread that collects films about Bitcoin can help you finding and comparing information among films in order to know the first ever film about Bitcoin. I don't know that whether the documentary film is the first ever one about Bitcoin but they (people who made that film) are not Satoshi Nakamoto. In this Bitcoin history book, you can find one film made by Daniel Mross and Nicholas Mross. It's ‘The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin’ . You can read more information about it on page 140. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M8z4M4oV4WC_aIGWkn-tO_T7Nkllj47C/view?usp=sharing

From the video, the narrator said the reason he cannot trust Bitcoin is that if he loses his secret phrase, he would lose all his money. Funny logic. If all he could point out is the fact that he already knows he can't safeguard his own money very well, then he doesn't know what he wants. I wish I could see him to know if his opinion has changed over the years I didn't know Bitcoin when it was still news to report. I got into Bitcoin when it was already mainstream, even though I heard about it a couple of years earlier, so it feels kind of wierd in a good way watching a documentary of when people talked about Bitcoin like it was a mystery. What does that have to do with anything being disussed? It doesn't take away his knowledge of Bitcoin or his contribution to the documentary. If there is anything he said in the article of video that you disagree, you can point it out.

I remember also one old documentary entitled: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh1dOmQJoWQ In any case, even at this time, we still know that this kind of old videos is still applicable as of this time. Only the price has change, but the views of those early adopters and developers have bearing in 2026.

A good throwback video of Bitcoin with the early adopters and it doesn't matter to me if it was the first documentary video of Bitcoin or not, what matters is that it shows that the message and awareness about Bitcoin has always been from it's early days. Problem was many of us didn't key into it then for various reasons when it was ridiculously cheap compared to where it is today, wish I could turn back the hand of time to when the documentary was made so that I could empty my account to buy Bitcoin but that is impossible. I guess in the next 10 years when Bitcoin is hopefully anywhere near $1m some people will throwback at where the price is today bellow $100k and wish they could turn back the hand of time and buy as much as they could. But it will be late for them as it is late for me to go back in time to 2012.

Good stuffs like this tend to get swept under the carpet of other shows and activities and probably you missed it cause the channel wasn't on your favorite scroll list. Again, how will one be able to know that such a documentary will be aired at a particular time right? Good find to the Op. I guess this will make people appreciate it the more and this will be much more helpful to the newbies who have a lot of questions about Bitcoin and I hope it satisfies their curiosity.

I believe you thought of this was because you did not understand the video because watching the video you shared, the purpose was just to show why it was better to stick with fiat currency rather than Bitcoin, since there was no federal reserves and recovery coins after losing key/seed phrase is like impossible. This was a promotion of fiat currency over Bitcoin but now the reasons he gave doesn't really stand strong especially with the inflation globally, although more severe in some Nations/Regions than others.

That video was uploaded 13 years ago, which means in 2013. Since then, a lot has happened with Bitcoin, and it’s truly amazing to see how much it has grown in such a short time. From something that was initially overlooked, it has now become the most popular and valuable digital currency. This serves as a reminder to all of us of Bitcoin’s growth and its potential for the future.

Bitcoin has indeed grow into a multi-billion dollar market for just over a decade. The pandemic gave a good boost also as people were trying to find ways how to go digital. And now, for sure, Satoshi or whoever created this currency didn't expect that this will evolve into a huge market encompassing people across the globe. So it is just good to hear that some entities are already recognizing this market in a deeper level, trying to show to the public the angles that people haven't seen yet. Because it can stir some awakening to some people, or better understanding about bitcoin. The reality is - up until now, a lot of people have this negative notion towards bitcoin. And besides, remember these old memes circulating about btc - more than likely, there are still people who have this kind of notion towards btc
