So I bought a Canaan miner, the Avalon Mini 3, on January 19, 2025, from this online shop "mineshop.eu" for €1,003.85. It finally got delivered on April 22, 2025. I used it to heat my home office (about 17 m²) on chilly days while trying to solo mine some blocks.
But then, in late May 2026, I noticed it wasn’t heating anymore. The hashrate dropped to almost nothing. When powered on, it would just spike for a moment and then get stuck in some kind of emergency mode, running at just 10% efficiency and not heating anything. I first reached out to the retailer, but they just sent me to the manufacturer. I exchanged a few emails with Canaan's support team. They suggested I reset the device, which I already tried, but that didn’t work. Then they told me to download a diagnostic tool from their site and upload the logs. Eventually, they told me the unit was faulty and I’d have to send it to a repair center in Portugal at my own cost. They outright denied any warranty claims, saying the warranty expired on April 17, 2026.
I then contacted the Irish retailer again, bringing up the European laws that say retailers must give a two-year warranty. The retailer...

Have you tried asking miners in Germany for advice?

In my country, this equipment also has a 12-month warranty, so I don't know why the seller should bear warranty risks due to legislation.
What results did the device's logs show? Could you please publish your logs? I'd like to see them so I can give you some advice.

I looked at the logs and saw that there was a problem with the temperature sensor.
10:4910:52 PM: The miner attempted to recover, but the hashrate remained zero, and the temperature continued to rise (up to 76°C).
The control board, which houses the integrated ASIC control system, is responsible for the ASIC's operation.
We'll start our diagnostics with the power supply and control board; the problem is most likely there, not with the chips.

Anyway, let's analyze the logs but the only thing that I could notice from the logs is the negative value under PVT_V0; it looks like the power supply can't provide enough power. Because PVT_V0 is related to power.
But it might be just triggered by the overheating chips. I noticed that the fanR is stuck at 25% so maybe try to improve the fan first to run at at least 50% or above to test if it is caused by an overheating issue.
If you can't find where to adjust the fan speed you can use FMS app that you can download from Canaan support and use this command below
You can replace the 50 to higher maximum to 100 as max fan speed.
If it's still not running fine, then try the aging process and let it run for awhile; it will test the unit itself, and it will automatically reconfigure the unit for stability. If you can't find the aging button from FMS app you can try this command below
This sometimes fixes the abnormal states of the unit, just like a random show of negative value under PVT_V0 and let's hope it works. But if not, you might need some extra PSU to try if it just a power issue. Also try plugging the unit into another wall outlet, and maybe the power source is not providing enough power because you plugit to outlet with thin gauge or low allowed amp.

If he gets the fan to fan at a higher speed it could be the fix.
If not then the psu needs replacement.

#12 Mar 31, 2025, 07:06 PM I would also first disassemble the ASIC and check the external condition of the control board. After such problems, it's best to replace the thermal paste.
This ASIC has an 800W power supply; I would try running the ASIC with a new one. Sometimes such problems are caused by a faulty power supply, which causes the control board to malfunction.
