Let’s chat about how crypto helps us as individuals during tough times, like the current war situation affecting everyone. It's not just us; even countries can gain from using crypto. For instance, when everything was on lockdown in Iran, they managed to move money using crypto channels.
That's the real power of crypto, but a lot of folks still can’t see its advantages. Whenever I bring up bitcoin, people often think its break from the norm is risky. They see the privacy and efficiency it brings as something negative.
Are you kidding? If government facilities are also affected by a total infrastructure outage, it's like losing the steering wheel of a car. They could certainly do that.
Yeah, I'm one of those who would deny it; not all the benefits of crypto will work when they lose one of their supporting elements. Not everyone can create a fully self-sufficient facility. This is especially true if your government limits your space for innovation and independence.
Definitely agreeable. If the internet is completely taken off, I don't think it will be much use. Majority of people depends on these government provided network systems to operate. Considering the cost and energy such private facilities might incure, people won't have second thoughts about using crypto in times of war. I'm still trying to understand if the report was made as a positive review about crypto or a negative bash, trying to inform the government about other means people were able to get their assets across borders.
It's simply, don't listen to people's opinions. Everyone can't always be positive about bitcoin. Most of them just lack simple knowledge about it.
There are off grid solutions for times without Internet connections.
[Total privacy Bitcoin]: off grid Transactions LoRaWan/goTenna.
During such chaotic times, there are more important concerns like your life safety rather than using bitcoins or cryptocurrencies, and to secure your assets including bitcoin and cryptocurrencies for later use. In such times, perhaps the best thing you can use is fiat currencies or something physically like gold as it can be used anywhere but there are disadvantages with portability.
The obvious answer is that they wanted to protect their wealth, some of those wealthy Iranians. So it makes sense for them to move as the country is not stable. The reports says that they detected it during the first few days of the war. So there could still be internet that time.
There will always be two sides of the story. Even US now is changing their tunes with regards to mixer. But in the case of Iran, they could have used it to hide all their money or circumvent the embargo on them by US and other ally in the West.
Is it like broadcasting transactions via radio signals? Even if that method works, it wouldn't be universally user-friendly.
But before we get to that step, how would someone instruct you to send them bitcoins and vice versa? Remember that scenario: all infrastructure is shutting down. If this is only a solution for face-to-face deals, fiat money seems more advantageous.
How can they say that the privacy crypto offers is dangerous, have they thought about how government of different countries including politicians over the years have been moving cash into various safe heavens across the world, most of the black market arm deals are done with cash as it's been speculated, if they want to say that crypto giving privacy to people is dangerous then they should also look out how dangerous physical cash has been to the world and they will see that the effect is four times more.
During war, terrible things do happen lives and properties are destroyed and the internet system will likely be shut down. Refugees and some other affected people can receive help through cryptocurrency but will mostly be major cryptocurrency investors and benefactors who may not be within the war zone and can even be from people in diaspora.
Investing in cryptocurrency is a nice idea , especially Bitcoin. But when war happens, the crypto market shakes and many investors sell their bitcoin and other cryptocurrency asset and use it as relieve fund since economic activities are no longer in full force, and major sources of income would likely close during this time.
One reason why whistle blowers in some countries exist is because of those greedy politicians or government officials that hide stacks of money in their homes instead of using a commercial bank, because they know they can't defend the source of the funds.
Now with Bitcoin, it may be private and more secure but transactions can't be erased from the Blockchain network.
The fear of most persons is also due to the fact that internet is what makes Bitcoin systems function effectively and if it gets disrupted, their funds get stuck, but these days I believe the Internet is secure to function effectively because of upgrades in the network protocols and better services that don't rely on general service providers.
That's why even in the waring countries, Bitcoin can still be moved from wallet to wallet for security and it maintains its store of value as it is.
Not sure if Iran publishes it officially, but I heard they are dealing with crypto for trading goods. Even this isn't true, but it's possible since there are no boundaries for the cryptocurrency payments. Any sanctions don't include crypto payments technically. Though I am not sure, likely that's the reason why crypto hasn't reacted to this ongoing war.
That's the advantage of cryptocurrency; we can use it anywhere in any situation due to the decentralised behaviour of Bitcoin. Just imagine Bitcoin struggling in this bear market but not being affected by the war. It does prove again crypto payments are the solid payment for borderless transactions. I am wondering when my government will realise that.
With your point you have shown how Bitcoin and other crypto networks can be resilient. As they operate on decentralized infrastructure, transactions and nodes can keep working even if there is restrictions in parts of the internet and financial system. Which makes crypto useful not just to individuals but equally to countrys that are looking for alternative financial channels in times of crises.
Nonetheless, the very same features which offer resilience, such like privacy and independence from traditional systems, equally makes most persons careful. A lot associate them to misuse or absence of regulation. For real, crypto is only a tools. Its worth relies on how individuals, institutions and governments choose to use it responsibly.
Was this taken from an official source? It understandable that the government can use cryptocurrencies for trades with other countries but how this can be possible for iranian people without internet connection? AFAIK only via starlink this can be possible but I didn't hear that Musk allowed the use of his services in Iran during this period. If there are active bitcoin nodes detected, the only explanation is they are being run by government facilities.
Can Bitcoin work when when the internet connection of a whole country is short down? Yes, Bitcoin is going to work and you will see those thousands of nodes running that's because many people from around the world are using it but in the country where Internet is short down, they can not use Bitcoin or crypto and that's a bad disadvantage. If there's no internet in the world, how do you send Bitcoin transaction? It's difficult to do that but if you have a had currency with you, it can be utilized.
This alone should tell you how much infrastructure exists behind the scenes. A lot of people think crypto is just trading on exchanges but the network layer itself is what actually keeps everything alive.
You shouldn't be surprised mate. It's a common reaction that usually comes with new technologies. Anything that operates outside the traditional financial structure naturally feels risky at first even if the main idea is to remove single points of control. But with time, people will still get used to it.
In short, Bitcoin fixes it. Bitcoin can be used anytime, in most cases, I believe, that's why it was considered as the money of the internet or digital gold.
So for me, the only issues right now are the regulations of different countries because overall, anyone can use Bitcoin, anywhere you are in the world, so for what OP said about the current issues related to war, yeah, nothing is new here, Bitcoin is still usable by anyone and anywhere.
Most people are only able to use Bitcoin if they have connection to Internet. Even there are off grid solutions but very little people can master it and use it for their Bitcoin transactions. It's in very bad situations that barely happen while with normal situation with good Internet connection or almost normal situation with fluctuating access to Internet, it's able to use Bitcoin blockchain for transactions of bitcoin and trade deals.
Bitcoin can not fix everything and it has pros and cons too but compares to traditional assets and transaction means, Bitcoin has many advantages and we can enjoy them whenever we can.
I don't think it is necessary to amplify Bitcoin strength like it can do everything, can fix everything and can be used anytime in any conditions, it's unrealistic.
This is not the time for us to debate on the value of bitcoin whether it is increasing or decreasing because we are expected to know this that we are already in bear season for Bitcoin, which on a number expectation should be at the fall of the market, we can also say that the value lies on how we can hold and the investment will make with respect to the rate we come in for it, that is why some will be making huge profit after investing and then you also discover some and not, the value remains unchanged even do every experience we have in its differs.
Bitcoin can be used also without an internet connection. There are already device that allow to broadcast blockchain directly from a satellite! Or radio device.
The Internet can be really useful for sending "large amount of data" but by itself the network can survive by itself.
I have always the "feeling" that someone would start to understand slow and slow how the bitcoin has a REAL value that even if people continue to measure in "monopoli money" doesn't give any "size" of what can be the real purchasing power.
Probably only with big events that involve entire communities it can be possible to understand the real advantage and the real value of bitcoin.
It's available to use but for the majority of Bitcoin users, they are not too technical like this and they will need to use Bitcoin in a more normal and standard way, with Bitcoin wallet (can be either custodial wallet or non custodial wallet) and Internet connection.
Life is unpredictable and hard but I see discussions like this, if not for technical development, upgrade for Bitcoin protocol and its adoption, is more like attack against Bitcoin. I see it is one kind of fuds against Bitcoin, as attackers can use such examples to say "Hey, you guys think Bitcoin is perfect, can fix everything, can do everything, but let's see what it can not do in war times with lack of electricity and Internet connection".
Technical discussions and developments are needed and important but don't derail it too much as it can be abused by attackers for making their fuds like real.
Bitcoin was created under the "impression" of the difficult times of 2008 and turned out to be, in fact, a financial instrument for overcoming the "difficult times" created by the governments of other countries.
This is the power of decentralized infrastructure: no one can exert centralized influence, as is the case with traditional infrastructure. It's a manifestation of digital financial freedom.
And they will continue to deny it until they are forced (like the people of Iran) to take advantage of the opportunities offered by crypto.
Because they see it as an obstacle, not an opportunity. It's difficult to think "broadly" when you've been taught to live within the "narrow" confines of the traditional financial system.
Thanks to negative propaganda in the media.
