I'm a dev and I've got this idea for a decentralized poker and blackjack game to kick things off in the casino space. This game would be totally decentralized. But I've got one big question: Will people actually play it? Is it worth my time to pursue? Also, how should I go about promoting it? If I’m handling everything on my own, how much cash do I need to spend on advertising to make it a hit?

I don't think you can get an audience instantly by promoting your decentralized gambling casino. If you're focusing only on these two games, then you can maybe get some players. About advertisement, I don't know how much you need to spend to promote your casino. Why not try to ask some campaign managers who are offering promotions? You can usually find them in the Services section.

Nobody knows for sure. But FWIW, Polymarket (which is somewhat decentralized prediction platform) become very successful despite only released 4 years ago. Since you have no idea, consider hiring marketing agency. Some of them even offer limited free consultation.

Places like this one, or nostr would be your best course, IMO. How do you prevent cheating, though? If it's decentralized, then every player holds the same rights to the game, and there is no admin to ban players for cheating. So what prevents a player from creating multiple identities, and "Sybil attacking" tables of blackjack?

Most people don't have problems signing up for centralized casinos and playing these and other games there. If they did, we wouldn't have hundreds of different online casinos popping up all over the place with new ones coming every day. I think you will be limiting your userbase significantly. First, you need players interested in playing poker and blackjack. Second, they need to be aware of and care about centralization to want to switch to a decentralized gambling style. And lastly, you will have to incentivize them to leave well-known casinos to come and play at your place. Don't forget, anything decentralized is always more complicated and time-consuming to set up and run than centralized services.

If it's a desentralized poker, then you will not make money from the project, so, if you want to develop something for the communty then Just do It, if the communty likes  the project then you don't have to invest in promotion. You should even make It open source, that way the communty will trust and work in your code.

you are going about this backwards, did you write a single line of code yet, or is all still just a concept? did you think how you would be making money off this? because if its 100% decentralized i don't think you can make any money out of it unless you make your own coin for it or something like that for advertizing, you can buy ads on gambling website, coin explorers, sponsored articles and youtube videos on poker channels, give incentives to players for referring their friends, etc... you will need as much money as you can afford to burn, advertizing is not cheap in the gambling space
