Some of you might have seen the presale announcements from resellers, but we’ve got a new stick miner powered by the S17 BM1397 chip hitting the market.
We're calling it the Compac F. And guess what? It's red. Like, really red.
This thing is built for overclocking. Like, hot-rod kind of overclocking.
The two photos above were taken during the same test. I haven't pushed my tester sticks beyond 3 Amps from the USB, but if you can keep it cool, it should theoretically hit around 500GH. That's kind of wild. Kano is developing the driver for this beast, and we've decided to set a speed limit at 800MHz (that’s 538GH theoretical) for safety reasons. Thanks to a new IC package design from Bitmain, the chips dissipate heat better, so when you combine that with our reliable Compac power systems, this stick is pretty impressive.
This isn’t going to be just another entry-level miner like the Compac, 2Pac, or NewPac. It’s compatible with our earlier USB sticks and built on the same reliable platform, but this is a limited release with only one batch planned. If there’s enough demand, we might produce more.
As for resellers, the usual names are stocking this: 419Mining, ASICPuppy, and BitcoinMerch in the US. If you're in Germany, check out Bitshopper.de. Eyeboot.com will have it in Hong Kong too. MineFarmBuy is interested as well but they’re acting as a broker, so you'll need to reach out to them for details.

Great to see you're still at it and making awesome stuff. Hard to believe a stickminer could achieve these speeds. If only we had a time machine. 10 years ago this would have been absolute gold. Congrats on continuing to set the bar for prospective miner builders. You must be enjoying yourself quite a bit to have kept at it so long as well, which may be even more impressive!

question, it seems like the newpacs used the S9 chips. The S9 pushed 13.5 TH/s w/189 chips or about 71 GH/s per chip. Newpacs definitely OC'ed to close to those levels cause I did have a couple that went to 130 GH/s+ and could honestly probably crank it higher. It seems like each S17 chip can produce a max of 380 GH/s per chip. does that mean in the future, we might be able to push 600-700+
i know its probably not smart to think of it linearly but was very interested. these are so cool, thanks for keeping at it!
No. If you read the 1st post you will see that it is ~360GHs @ 15w. It should be able to run faster (and of course hotter) but of course will pull more power to do it.
Not going to happen for at least 2 reasons:
Bitmain does not sell bare chips in the quantities needed
AFAIK Sidehack is committed to making only miners that are suitable for home use. That means under roughly 1kw max to keep noise from cooling fans to a minimum.
We are working on a larger-scale miner (finally!) but it won't be 3KW and it won't be Bitmain chips. Not gonna say much more until we have some real stuff to show off, as is my habit.
Everyone's "end of September" delivery target is based on that we're right now gathering up everything we need to start production, and then we start manufacture and finish assembly and testing before we ship, so nobody will have stock for several weeks. That's pretty much how all my new product announcements have gone - the first batch is a preorder with specs based on working prototypes, in order to raise capital to manufacture in bulk.
No, this stick can't be pushed to 600-700GH. There's only the one chip on it, and you're still limited by power and cooling. Software limits you to 538GH, if the hardware doesn't catch fire first. Fire voids the warranty, by the way.
What would the process be to upgrade an existing gekko-cgminer on a Pi4 to include the new driver? Is it a fresh install or can it be "added" to the current version ourselves?
Another reason to make y'all wait a minute for hardware is driver verification. Kano made some fairly hefty changes so we need to test backward-compatibility with old hardware before calling it ready. Wouldn't want you guys to update cgminer and find out it only works on the Compac F now would we? That's a little too Apple for my comfort.

I've been working on the addition of the BM1397 chip for the Ferrari, and the update push to my git will contain all the changes I've made on top of vh's code to support that, and the necessary small changes in cgminer and usbutils.
I've also made changes to support different chips more easily in the gekko code, and to clarify what the current code is doing in some places.
So basically it will be the same process as before except to pull master from my git, instead of vh's git, to get a version that supports all the gekkos.
Thats exactly what I was hoping it would be. Same process just different location to pull from. So the instructions I followed before would still be relevant. When will the new "kano-gekko--cgminer" be ready?

Well, as you can see, it already works fine, that's what sidehack used in that picture.
I'm just tuning it and making it more robust.
I'll of course push it before anyone gets a Ferrari, but as sidehack mentioned,
I want to do the full cross device testing, so once I get certain older devices I don't have and have tested them, I'll push it live.
Alas that's a 'not sure yet' but 'soon'.
