login problems with s17 pro t17

hey, I've got a miner that's acting up and I'm kinda lost on what to do next. I've got a mix of s17 pro and t17 miners and can't tell which one this is. I'm aiming to get braiins OS running on it, but I think it needs to have the original bitmain firmware first, right? I grabbed a firmware for all s and t models, and it popped up as T17 on the main screen. Then I went for the official firmware from bitmain, but now I can't log into the backend. I get to the login for user and pass, but when I try root/root, it just refreshes the page without any error. I looked up the product number on the side of the machine (the stickers are mostly faded and a few are missing) and it said it was an s17 pro, so I tried that firmware too and got the same results. Then I went back to this faulty firmware and attempted to install braiins over it since root/root was working, but all I got was "this miner is not supported" and the fans are running at full speed through all the firmware attempts. How can I get this miner back to stock? Any suggestions, other than buying a new mainboard that's pre-flashed?

did all units work? how many units are there. if you have under ten pieces this is easy enough. if you have 50 or 60 pieces it will be harder to track it all down.

yeah sorry I was not clear, this is just one unit I had on my shelf and just got round to looking at it, I installed hiveos on it (this was my main for all units) I am now moving over to braiins os and was trying it on this spare system, all my other units are running fine on hive, but I am worried that if I try and revert them back it will brick the system, so for clarity, I am just having issues with this one for now.

did you flash the controller or use an sdcard instead.

pretty hard to follow what your problem is, but if I understand correctly, your main problem is that you don't know which miner model you actually have, and now there is a chance that you flashed the wrong firmware so whatever shows on the webpage could be inaccurate, one easy way to solve this would be to disable the gear and compare the hashboard to the other ones you have, all of these 17 series models differ in the chip count, so take one hashboard out and count the chips. T17 has 30 chips / board S17 pro has 48 chips / board S17+ has 65 chips / board S17e has 135 chips / board (ya 135 no typos) So ya, figure out your miner type first then come back.

Are you sure you flashing it right? What size sdcard you have?Can you try Vnish firmware instead (awesomeminer of Asic.to) Also try to reset the miner, unplug the power cable, press IP report button, keep it pressed while you power the miner, don't let go of the button for 10 seconds, release. Try to to login again.

well, I think so, I have been able to install t17 stuff ok, I have a 1gb one and a 4gb one, both been scanned for errors, I cant try Vnish as its not a standalone, I have to get the original firmware on then remove SHH before I can go anywhere near that or braiins os. yeah, good shout but afraid I have tried all the reset things, I guess I broke it. noted thanks, gonna play around for a day or two first just to make sure I learnt what I did so I wont do it again haha [moderator's note: consecutive posts merged]

controllers are tricky and easy to brick. if you have more then 5 t17s and s17s combined it is good to have 1 spare controller and a few spare fans.

https://ibb.co/2K5GMHm yeah, so it did take the s17pro firmware for some reason (did not change anything just tried it again), but cant get past this screen, so unless anyone got any tips then I am just gonna assume I bricked it. gonna order a few backup cards just in case

Download awesomeminer app and try to flash their firmware using the app, it might work.

rather than start a new thread I would just carry on this one, so i bought another board, was sold as a s17+ I planned to change firmware to s17pro, huge mistake on my part, firstly on removing the old board, there were soldered wires on the back with one loose, so someone been modding it, but I digress, this new board boots fine, but will not flash any thing. first starting doing a hard sd card flash, it just hangs with both light on, then I tried using the upgrade firmware on the miner, only to get to "cannot continue no signature" - NOTE, I used the official firmware from bitmain. anyone know how to change a s17+ board into a s17 pro board?
