So, Steven Nerayoff, who was one of the first advisors to Ethereum, is going after the US government with a massive lawsuit for $9.6 billion. He’s claiming that the feds went after him with false charges and used intimidation tactics, even going as far as to fabricate evidence.
Nerayoff got arrested by the FBI in September 2019 along with his buddy Michael Hlady on extortion charges. They were accused of threatening to ruin a crypto startup unless they got paid millions in ether. But after four years of legal drama, the US government dropped the case in May 2023.
Now, in his latest court documents from last week, Nerayoff’s lawyers argue that the damage done to his reputation and businesses justifies this crazy $9.6 billion claim.
"I’ve filed my lawsuit under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) against the U.S. government for personal damages due to false prosecution," Nerayoff shared on X. "It’s time to stand up against this rampant corruption and ensure justice for all who’ve been wrongly accused."
