So, Outside Magazine is rolling out this "anti-metaverse" initiative called "Outerverse". The idea is to motivate people to hit the slopes, run, cycle, or hike by using NFTs and cool rewards.
In this platform, outdoor enthusiasts can earn incentives for their activities tracked in the real world, all built on crypto. Like, skiers might score chances for heli-skiing trips, chats with pro photographers, tickets for Warren Miller films, and definitely some NFTs by just spending time on the snow.
The company that owns Outside Magazine, along with other outdoor-focused publications and fitness brands, is diving into Web3 with this new NFT platform. They really want to push folks to get outside rather than zoning out in virtual reality.

That is a very interesting and creative concept which can encourage people to develop healthy habits while making some extra income from it. I'm really concerned about spending more time at virtual environments and less time in the real world.
On the other hand, we must be careful with any services paying us for tracking our steps. It means you are giving your coordinates and routine details in real time to someone you don't know and don't know what they can do with this or to who they can expose it to.
Moreover, payrates must be taken into consideration. I've seen similiar apps, and in my opinion it's fake propaganda what they offer, since people earn too little, being almost impossible to cashout a minimum decent amount of crypto.

So, it took them almost 10 years to rebrand the ideas that has already existed for ages and they didn't even go for Pokemon GO style that's actually still working method? I guess each to their own, but gamifying my exercises for some utility tokens or crap nfts would leave a bad taste to my mouth. I would be embarrassed to even talk about it.
Don't get me wrong, i was very into nfts when they came, because they were just means to make money to me, but they made only sense in a way that memetokens make sense.
I am all for anything that makes people exercise, but there are numerous apps that have tried to incentivized moving with money. That quickly stops being fun when you are competitive walks for pennies and walking miles.
And funny enough, metaverse was almost dead on arrival. Rebranding that is just cringe. It was build for the hype that had just peaked.
