I’ve always known about altcoin or token burns, but honestly, I never thought I’d see the day when someone or a group would decide to burn 107.13 BTC with only 965,006 BTC left to mine. Maybe they wanted to show their love for BTC, trying to chip away at that previous total of 3,500,000 coins that went missing.
The BTC was sent to the wallet 1111111111111111111114oLvT2, which is a well-known address for burning BTC. They even paid double the average fee for the transaction, and it got added to block 950,958.
According to walletexplorer, some of the burned BTC came from wallets that were created back in 2014. A few of those wallets have also received transactions from big exchanges like Poloniex, Bitfinex, and Kraken. Could it be that these major exchanges are behind this?

The only connection to exchanges is that whoever this person was, they were actively trading on Kraken. The wallet addresses were originally funded many years ago, but three of them had been active in recent weeks. They were not all dormant, like people are saying on social media.
Since they had used the same Kraken deposit address many times, Kraken would know who is behind those transfers. I doubt that information will get leaked, so its anybodys guess why somebody would burn 107 BTC.
I do not think so. You mentioned more than one exchanges. Also why would an exchange burn bitcoin when what they want is profit over business.
There was a topic about it that was created yesterday about it: 107 Bitcoins sent to burn address [05/25/2026]
I think it will be better to lock this thread instead of people to be making repetitive posts.
OP, I can't imagine any of your reasons for the burn as valid considering that no one would want more bitcoins to be lost. And why would an exchange burn some bitcoins when they're in business to make money? If you ask me, I think whoever did that may have done it out of spite. Perhaps they own so much bitcoins and feel their hoard has not made them happier than they thought they would have imagined they'd be. It could also be that they just wasted the coins in a moment of brief madness or simply just for the heck of it. Whatever the reason, we may never know.
107 btc at 78k usd thats more than 8 million us friggin dolla. It was indeed a sick burn. It seems to me someone messed it up big time. Thanks to the fool who committed this atrocity, the remaining btc in circulation are now destined to be more valuable because those burnt coin aint movin ever again. Those burns aint gonna heal.
