Hey everyone
Currently, I’m in a long-term drug rehab program in Victoria, Australia. A bunch of us here come from tough backgrounds, including jail, and a big hurdle after rehab is figuring out how to learn real skills that help us avoid crime.
So, our program has approved a project that I think a lot of you will find interesting: we’re setting up a small, energy-efficient crypto mining and digital skills project within the rehab.
Why go with crypto?
Crypto is one of those areas where:
• you can gain practical skills without needing a degree
• the entry point is pretty low if you keep it small
• it covers essential concepts: hardware, software, networks, decentralization, energy efficiency, security, and financial literacy
• it shows folks there are legal ways to make money without reverting to crime
For many here, this is the first time they've actually used a computer for something productive.
What’s the plan?
We’re kicking things off in a realistic way:
• 1-2 low-power mining rigs
• basic computer gear
• cooling and safety equipment
• educational resources
• guided workshops on how mining functions, wallets, networks, and digital security
This isn't about getting rich quick. It’s all about learning, building structure, and giving people a chance at a future that doesn’t lead back to jail.
Why post here?
Crypto has always been about shaking things up, creating new chances, and giving people access to tools that were out of reach before. That’s exactly our goal in this rehab.

Even if you can.
Thats a great idea. Using Bitcoin mining to teach real skills can help people rebuild their lives. Focusing on learning, not profit, is the right approach. Even small setups can teach valuable tech and security skills. Good project
It's great that you're helping people in difficult situations, but it's very difficult to find work in mining, and home mining died out long ago in countries with expensive electricity.
Australia isn't even in the top 10 mining countries, and that's likely due to high electricity prices.
This material will be very useful as additional knowledge, but a good electrician or equipment repair specialist has a better chance of finding work.
This will only create awareness, not bad, but the reality is they can't get paid knowing all these, it's not some job and skills teaching, most of these people can't afford to buy profitable miners and start mining.
However there is hope, they can get out of rehab and want to embark on something like this, maybe they can find someone who will help them with it after they are out, this is why I won't rule the idea off, it's a good one regardless.
Focusing on learning alone without earning won't help much unless they already have money to make it happen.
Electricity is expensive in Australia, and unfortunately, mining there will be unprofitable from the start. If solar power and equipment through government subsidies are available, that would be a solution.
But then they will have to train people to operate solar power systems. And also the use of secondary heat to increase mining efficiency.
This is an incredibly inspiring initiative and a perfect example of how the Bitcoin can provide a path to redemption. I mean, this is the first time I've heard it. Mining is the opposite of a get-rich-quick scheme imo. It teaches patience, especially if we look today difficulty our small rig vs those big farm hehe.
In my opinion you already succed just keep it up and like Spiderman said "trying to do better".
