I just updated to Bitcoin Core 30+ and noticed something. Did anyone else see that white background on the overview page? And there’s this new blue line at the bottom showing how many hours it's behind the network during updates. Also, the buttons for overview, send, receive, and transaction history are greyed out until you hover over them. Is that how it’s supposed to be?

I haven't upgraded yet, but if you're wondering if you downloaded the real version, you should verify the checksums and signatures. For reference, the checksums:

I don't pay attention to visual change. But there are some non-minor GUI change in Bitcoin Core 30.0. Changing Qt major version rarely happen, since i recall it last happened many years ago.

v30.2's GUI is fine on Linux, here's a recent screenshot for reference (tested with empty datadir): But I've tested this on another machine (Windows) and I got similar (not exact) result as yours: Notably, the strikethrough across the estimated sync time and the new white separate rectangular backgrounds below the texts.

That is what I'm talking about. https://i.ibb.co/1B1rdNM/Screenshot-2026-01-27-202255.png  Verifying the signatures was a must beforehand.

That’s normal, nothing unusual there. They made a few UI changes, mostly due to Qt updates, but functionality-wise it’s basically the same — mostly just visual tweaks. If it really annoys you, you can use custom themes or just stick to RPC like before.

You mean the grayed-out tab names? I can only reproduce that if I set my system to dark mode, Bitcoin Core follows the theme but it makes those letters look unclickable. If it's in normal mode, the texts look normal as seen in my screenshot. (the reason why I only said "similar") And yeah, as suggested by others, check your Bitcoin Core's hash and verify the file containing the hashes.

So after those theme switching, it looks normal now? That's what I haven't tested since I've started my reproduction test in Dark mode. (it wasn't specified anyways) At least the hash is correct. However, if you want to complete its verification, you'll have to verify the "SHA256SUMS" file with "SHA256SUMS.asc". At least I can confirm that those hashes are the same as the one in the file that I've verified myself.

Confirmed: The strikethrough line is the color of your personalized settings in Windows under Themes. Also, if you see the first letter of a word on the top bar underlined... it means that you have pressed Alt key to be able to select it with your keyboard holding down alt. Other than that, the greyed out text was resolved by switching back to light mode from dark one time. It was only necessary to do this once for it to go back to normal-looking!

If you have the time, it's worth posting this as a new issue in Bitcoin Core's GUI repository under "Issue or feature request related to the GUI". Since you now have reproducible instructions, you can link this thread and type a summary of the visual bug. I've checked briefly and I can't find a duplicate in both bitcoin/bitcoin and bitcoin-core/gui repository issues tabs (but you should double-check) Link: github.com/bitcoin-core/gui/issues

In the GUI's standpoint, it's broken in Windows since it doesn't work as intended. The actual appearance isn't exactly what you've described, one example is the second screenshot in my test. You can also try to reproduce it by following the previous replies if you have a Windows machine (OP didn't specify, but try W11) Of course, the node's performance isn't affected by it, it's purely cosmetic issue.
