Hey, I hope this isn’t a dumb question: I was checking out the chart and something seems off with the volume indicator. Could it be a glitch with TradingView or something else going on? Anyone have any ideas? Is the volume low? (Talking about BTC volume, not USD)

Don't know what you mean, but since it is about Bitcoin trading volumes you have to move this thread to trading discussions board. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0

Which indicator are you using, though? I remember seeing so many custom volume indicators on their page. Some of them only show the difference between buying and selling activity for example, so it doesn't tell the whole story. Also, when you said BTC volume, doesn't this mean that when BTC's price relative to USD increases, you'll see fewer bars because people will trade with less Bitcoin? I also remember that you can click each bar and see how much it's worth. CMIIW. Can you no longer do that?

Quote to show image. There is another source for Bitcoin trading volumes[1] and this is a screenshot: True, during the five years there is a decrease in BTC volumes from 1.3 million BTC to less than 500K, Glassnode[2] has more detailed analysis about On-chain volumes and the reasons for this decrease, but in general it can be an indicator of: - Investors' lack of trust in centralized exchanges. - Bitcoin price is still low and many do not want to sell. It happened years ago but since 2022 bear market with FTX and Terra collapses, people as individual, retail investors to institutional investors have more fear of centralized exchanges and platforms, so they have had a better practice. Withdraw their bitcoins from centralized platforms to their non custodial wallets and keep their bitcoins under their full controls. It affects trading volume too but there is another reason, they have yet seen big reason to deposit their bitcoin back to exchange accounts for trading, and cashing out.

In every cycle, new investors join and these investors usually do not know much about wallets, so they mostly leave their coins on those platforms where they sell as soon as profits are made, so I do not think that what happened with FTX and Terra will affect the long term.

Using the BTC volume might not help that much 1. How many people own 1 BTC today worth $95,000 vs a few years back when BTC was $10,000? Do you realize that a volume of 10,000 BTC today is greater than 60,000 BTC a few years back in USDT terms? I would rather you focus on the USD or USDT values.

makes perfect sense, with recent massive buying of big financial institutions that settles things from OTC but ultimately I think the BTC provider definitely getting their BTC from the market, means there's lesser BTC circulating since people are just hoarding it and this decline of trading volume is somewhat understandable. it's also probably because the retailer hasn't getting fomo'd yet into buying BTC and most of the big move coming from institutional buyers in the market that didn't settle OTC. which means the bullrun still long way to go. kinda expect the volume to start picking up once it hits $130k in the future.

However, the chart shown here uses BTC as the units, which doesn't show the USD volume at all. If BTC's price increases, there's a possibility that the chart will show another decrease in BTC volumes. I tend to believe that people don't want to sell BTC because they believe the price is going to increase even more, just like what happened in 2022 or 2020 (according to the chart above). CMIIW. I wonder why OP doesn't reply though. He visited this forum yesterday so I believe he still visits this forum regularly.

To OP, verify your source when using trading view, maybe that pair is on a specific exchange only with the pair you want then it could have a different trading volume with other exchanges and you can also consider combined all exchanges and to get the total trading volume.
