January 2026 | Gelephu, Bhutan
So, Bhutan just rolled out a Digital Nomad Visa Program. It’s pretty cool because it opens up long-term residency for foreign pros in this unique and values-driven place. This initiative is part of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), in collaboration with NomadClub and backed by the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority.
They’re looking to attract digital nomads, entrepreneurs, remote workers, and innovators whose work fits with GMC's goals of sustainable growth, mindful living, and future-ready economies.
Here are some main points about the Digital Nomad Visa Program:
- Long-term residence
Participants can get a 12-month permit, which can be extended to 24 months, so you can work and live remotely while legally staying in Bhutan.
- Flexible eligibility
You don’t have to hit a strict income requirement. Instead, it’s all about what you do and how well you align with the program’s goals, along with a compliance check.
- Freedom to move around
Visa holders can live and travel anywhere in Bhutan without being stuck in just one city or area.
- Clear onboarding process
The steps to apply are:
1. Check eligibility and get onboarded
2. Pay an annual fee of USD 2,800
3. Open up a local account with DK Bank and keep a minimum balance of USD 10,000 in TER, which is tied to gold.
