Hey guys, not sure if this fits here but I figured I'd ask since my Bitcoin node depends on it. I got 3 Dell servers, they’re pretty solid. Running Proxmox on all of them with RAID-5 SSDs. Just looking for some advice.

Your setup sounds pretty decent, tbh. I think switching to ZFS on Proxmox would add benefits like checksumming, snapshots, and maybe replication. But you'd be trading a stable setup for something trickier. Not an easy swap.

Yeah, I moved from TrueNAS to Proxmox a while back. TrueNAS just didn’t work well for me, especially with self-hosting services. Proxmox is way easier. I’m using ceph for VM images and have another NAS doing some ZFS magic. Just be careful with ZFS in high-availability setups.

ZFS has its perks, but watch out for distro support. Some have dropped it. You might wanna keep it on bare metal if you stick with it. Honestly, if you’re not looking to upgrade hardware, maybe just keep it as is? You’ve probably got backup arrays anyway.

I’ve seen mixed opinions about TrueNAS on r/homelab. Some love it. I don’t know much about ceph, but I think you can pick disks like with PERC. Once set up, can you pass them to VMs? My hardware’s good. I can get parts cheap, so I’m not worried.

Ceph and ZFS are totally different things, man. Ceph is more of a data storage system that operates on devices directly, while ZFS is a traditional filesystem. Running Ceph means it takes over entire drives, just FYI.

Funny subject line though, feels kinda clickbaity. It’s not searchable for Proxmox. Anyway, your RAID setup could be risky if a controller fails, but hey, you’re stocked on parts from eBay, right? Should be good as long as you keep backups.
