I get it, this coin feels like a relic, but I just dug up an old wallet from like 2012 on one of my dusty hard drives. Turns out, I had quite a few coins stored back when I was mining BTC and messing around with NMC regularly. So, I fired up a Namecoin core, but it’s been a whole day and it still can’t find any peers. Are there any up-to-date lists of active peers for Namecoin out there? I’d love to manually add some and see if I can sync things up and check what I’ve got. Thanks a lot, Aaron

I can't find a recent and most updated thread about this. But found this old one and maybe this could give you some help that you need. I'm not sure if it will work with you but I hope that this will be the one that you need. Check this sub reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Namecoin/comments/n5um3d/any_peer_list_to_get_syncing_going/

If this is the same software as Bitcoin core (which looks like it is) you should be able to get your addresses and check them manually check them on a blockexplorer. If you think it is worth it, you can then export the private keys for that address and try to import them elsewhere. I also found (by searching, didn't test myself) that Atomic wallet does support NMC and also importing private keys so you can maybe use that instead of waiting Namecoin core to sync. P.S: Atomic wallet is not something I would recommend anyone to use and there have been a lot of suspicious incidents where people have lost a lot of money (in the millions) even though they claim to be non custodial, so... if this works for you, I'd sell the coin asap (I'm assuming that's what you want to do here).

i appreciate the help everyone. yes this is a bitcore spin off.   this coin was one of the original 'alt' coins that used to mine along with btc wayy back in the day.  i remember running this back in like 2012 2013 when i had my video card miner running for bitcoin    ahh the memories!!   i found that old wallet, it was cli back then no fancy gui, and am wondering how many coins are left on it,  back then leaving dust on a btc wallet may mean you left 0.21 on it, which is still 1000 buxx by todays standards. omega, i am looking to propagate the wallet, get it caught up and leaving it run as a node for others since they seem so scarce to find, which is why i was looking for a list of address' of peers.   so i can connect and hopefully pull the data's i need thank you aaron

Namecoin is a bit too thin when it comes to peers, so the behaviour is not at all surprising. I don't think there is any officially updated peers list that can be found easily anymore. I think manually adding nodes with addnode in the config or console is kind of the only way to do that now. When it grabs on a few peers, it will eventually start discovering others on its own! you can checkout this page, it explains on manually adding wallet nodes, which explains how to use addnode for both the config file and the debug console as well https://coinguides.org/adding-wallet-nodes/ Hope this helpss. GoodLuck Bro.

bourn, the wallet is acting goofy, it won't load saying it's corrupt. im looking elsewhere on that computer, usually i put copies of wallets in a few places, always been kind of paranoid of them getting lost / corrupted so would copy them onto sticks, well, back then maybe even a 3.5 floppy heh.  etc to back them up.  maybe it's a btc wallet and it got moved into a directory it didn't belong,  both use  wallet.dat without any way to tell which one i believe, so ill try it other places too right now the wallet is up and running, loads very fast and connects very fast to the hosts i listed, and broadcasts its'selfso others can see 'us'. i hate to see an old dog die so im gonna keep this one running in the background so if anyone needs, feels giddy etc, they got someone to validate them. thank you Aaron edit:  programmer 3666  yah i got a list of some names, and at first seemed like nothing, then bing, the list propogated and now i got some folks to talk to and the wallet is running good, so ill add my geezerstrength to the network !

Wallet been running a while, watching network traffic, a few times a day im feeding someone so .. well that means it's helping, so ... cool.  i'll leave it run pretty much indef in the background then, not really hurting anything, and taking almost zero resources, so why not. if anyone has any other wallets they know of they need seed help with.  put em up and ill see what i can do for you aaron

The DNS seeds that are listed on the reference implementation are just terrible. The first two are dead (I couldn't reach them anyway) and some are hardly responding. But I managed to "dig" a couple and get a bunch of IPs. You can do it yourself too manually or through one of those web tools... https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin-core/blob/master/src/kernel/chainparams.cpp#L184-L189 From #4 dig dnsseed2.nmc.dotbit.zone A dig dnsseed2.nmc.dotbit.zone AAAA

i just cut and pasted what worked for me.  it's better than nothing and got the wallet up and running. your experience may differ.   maybe if you were to open up a wallet and leave it run it'd help get it seen more. Aaron
