You can download this document in .pdf format here. 1) General info, what else you might need The WhatsMiner M20S is an ASIC miner for Bitcoin (SHA-256) that uses 12nm chip technology, made by Shenzhen Bit Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd, which is also known as MicroBT. It’s a standalone miner that includes its own controller and power supply. The advertised hashrate is 68.0 Th/s, with a power draw of 3260 Watts. https://www.microbt.com/ is the link I use, but they show all their products with delivery dates of Oct 8th-15th. Basically not many people have miners available right now unless you want to pay crazy high broker fees...

It amazes me how little research people STILL do these days on buying a item over $1000.  You would have to be braindead to think that link above is not a scam site. lol.  Like common guys, the hell.

I do feel for those that are ripped off by scammers.

People need to start doing research.  Simply come here, or go on the common reputable discords that talk about asic miners and ask what are the actual re-sellers or direct manufactures websites to buy from.  Stop buying from random sites like (blahblahasichotdog123.com) and think before you act.  We always tell people what the actual manufactures are, and reputable re sellers that are trusted.  Wish people would look at this before shelling out 1000s of dollars on a whim.

Anybody having issues with the updated M20S firmware, Nov 5 edition? Pre-update 3.35 kW, 69.5TH. Post update, uptime is showing 25m and stats are 3.2kW, 23.745TH. On a related note, could someone send or show me where I could download the earlier firmware (I think it's 20190927) Appreciate any help! Edit: Holy crap it took 40m to warm up but is now moving - 69.5TH/3.35kW. All that work/anxiety and no change

Just to report that i did update successfully my M20S with the latest firmware and the machine has been running well for more then 48 hours. From the support page, it says "The latest firmware optimizes machine power consumption and enhances machine stability". Convinced me to give it a shot. It was the first time i was updating a firmware on a WhatsMiner, so i'm going to give some details if that can help someone. On this page i could see that a new firmware was release on December 11th 2019: https://www.microbt.com/server/firmware.html Question was do i own an H3 or H6? Looking at the miner externally, does't seems to be any reference to the control board version. Thought i was going to have to open the casing but found an easier way. First, i installed the WhatsMinerTool-4.2.5 (from support page) on a Windows machine. Then i scanned the ip range and found the miner. Finally looked at the listed M20S miner (scrolling right in the list) a column labeled "Version Info" that shows a long code beginning with H3 or H6.     Knowing i own an H3 M20S, downloaded the upgrade-whatsminer-h3-20191211.17.bin file from the firmware support page. Used the "Upgrade" button in the Windows tool, selected the .bin file and completed the upgrade process with success. GH before firmware update (original firmware) : 67500 Power before : 3268W GH after firmware update : 68700 Power after : 3221W So, i roughly gained 1 TH for the same consumption.

So after 2 years since the release of this gear, how is it holding? Would appreciate everyone's experience with the M20s and whether they are as robust as the m21s.

My M20S unit is nowadays part of Phil's gear setup, if he still has it. Would be cool to know if it is still alive, or if some trouble has arised.

I think both are dead . Both needed psu's But the mine is hot and these gears are a hot unit in the first place. I could go to farm link and see what is left of my what's miner gear. give me 10 minutes. My bad hagssfin  gear a m20s is still running on low at 42th but pulls 2900 watts one of the m10's from Dec 2018 is running it does 27th on low power one of the m10's from Jan 2018 is running it does 13 th  on low but 1 or 2 boards can't sign into it but it hashes. So I have 82th working of what should be 128-131th I did have the other m20s die. and a m21s  and a m10 that is over 160th lost. so lets day 160th + 48th = 208th lost and 82th working. But the room is very hot. It has a few other issues. My bitmain s17pro and my bitmain L3+ gear did the best of all asic gear we have. The cannon gear would be second best. Frankly it is a 2 fold issue room is too hot and we get brown outs that are very hard on psu's

Could you provide more details? how did they die, is it a PSU or dead hash boards? how long did they run for? I know you had great luck with the S17 pro which is against the odds, judging by large sample reviews it's pretty obvious the M21s and the M20 is a lot more robust than all the 17 series of bitmain including the Pro version, this also reflects in the price of these gears, despite being a lot more effienct and newer, the S17 Pro is always either the same price or cheaper than MicroBT gears which also leads to the same conclusion. With that being said, the reviews between M20s vs M21s are not so clear, but judging the price it seems like the M21 is a lot more reliable. M20s = $33 per TH M21s = $34 per TH keep in mind the M20 is 46w/th vs 60w/th for the M21s, which means the M20s is a lot cheaper than the M21s, this suggests that at least in theory the M20 is more reliable, on a side note, they both use the same PSU.

Okay we have a voltage drop issue at the large farm.  One or 2 times a month the voltage drops to 190-195 vs 238.  The reason is Verizon a large phone and tele company is a block from the farm/warehouse.  This particular Verizon location is the redundant back up to the New York Stock exchange and they test the backup monthly. When the testing the backup it browns us out.  10 -20 minutes.  Not a big issue except the psu's will run on almost all the gear and the what's miner  psu ends up getting stressed and pulling excess amps to run the gear. So the psu's tend to wear out. Also the psu was 1 plug not 2 so sometimes we would pop a circuit. It is not so much that the gear was bad as our farm has the voltage issue. Secondary the what's miners are not as heat robust as the s9 or s17 or t17 .  In the summer if we get to 95f the hot aisle is really hot 120f. yeah the cool aisle is also 95f.  And the what's miner gear would specifically say the room is too hot. We are in a large ware house in a smaller room. We have over 300kwatts available but can not get enough air into and out of the room. we feed in 9+10+5 = 24000  cfm and pull out 14+5= 19000  cfm.  We burn 125 of the 300 kwatts available.  So the bitmain gear will run on those hot days. The whatsminer struggled. We have a second room it does well with gpus only. But it is 10x the size and 1/7 the power used.
